Homemade Apple Pie Dessert Recipe |
Homemade Apple Pie Ingredients:- 8 Semi Tart Apples - peeled, sliced thin in half moon shaped slices
- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 heaped tablespoons Flour
- 1/4 stick Butter - sliced into pats
- Cinnamon
- Allspice
Crust: - 2 cups Flour Sifted
- 2 tablespoons Salt
- 8 heaped tablespoons Shortening
- 8 tablespoons Ice Cold Water

Homemade Apple Pie Instructions:- Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
- Wash the apples then peel and slice them into wedges about the thickness of a butter knife.
- Place the apple slices in a mixing bowl then add the sugar and flour mixing together well to ensure all apple slices are covered.
- Sprinkle with spices to taste.Leave apple slices to set while you make the crust.
Crust: makes a 2 layer pie crust - Sift 1 cup of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt at a time to ensure sure well sifted into a large bowl then add the shortening in rounded heaps.
- Use a pastry cutter and mix shortening and flour mixture together until it has the consistency of corn meal, ensure that all pieces of shortening are broken up small and crumbly then add all of the ice cold water.
- Mix by hand until the ingredients are stuck together being careful not to mix too much as this will make the crust tough.
- Form this mixture into a large ball and cut it in half.
Take one half and roll out onto floured counter or wax paper making the bottom crust 1/2 inch bigger all around than the pie plate. - Place the crust into the pie plate, add the apple mixture then place pats of butter on top and sprinkle with extra cinnamon to taste.
- Roll out the top crust and place on top of the mixture in the pie plate then using your fingertip seal the edges with a little water.
- Pinch the two layers of crusts together with your fingertips to make a decorative edge or form ridges around the edges using a fork.
- Brush the top of the pie crust with a egg wash and sprinkle with sugar if desired for appearance.
- Use a knife to cut 5 slits into the top crust for venting.
- Place a cookie sheet under the pie in the oven as it will reduce smoking when it starts to boil over.
- Place the pie in the oven and bake at 425 degrees for 15 minutes then reduce the heat to 350 degrees and continue baking for 35 to 40 minutes until the pie us bubbling.

Homemade Apple Pie Cooking Time:- Cooking time 50 - 55 minutes.
- Leave to cool a little before serving.
