Apple Danish Dessert Recipe

Apple Danish Ingredients:
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1/2 cup Milk

    Filling:
  • 6 cups sliced peeled Apples
  • 1½ cups Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Butter - melted
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon

    Glaze:
  • 1 Egg White - lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup Confectioners' Sugar
  • 3 teaspoons Water

Apple Danish Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Combine flour and salt together in a bowl then cut in shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Combine egg yolk and milk then add to flour mixture stirring until the dough clings together.
  • Roll out half of the dough on a lightly floured surface into a 15 inch x 10 inch rectangle then place it on a greased 15 inch x 10 inch x 1 inch baking pan and put to one side.
  • Toss the filling ingredients together in a bowl then spoon over pastry in the pan. Roll out the remaining half of the dough into 15 inch x 10 inch rectangle then place it over the filling. Brush with egg white.
  • Place in oven and bake 40 minutes or until appearance is golden brown. Allow to cool on a wire rack.
  • To glaze, mix together the confectioners' sugar and enough water to create a drizzling consistency then drizzle over warm pastry.
  • Serve warm or cold.
