Apple Turnovers Dessert Recipe

Apple Turnovers Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3/4 cup Shortening
  • 5 tablespoons Cold Water
  • 1 3/4 cups Fresh Apples
  • 1/3 cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/3 cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar

Apple Turnovers Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Combine the salt and 2 cups of flour together and cut in the shortening. Add a tablespoon of water at a time then form the dough into a ball and roll out onto a floured surface immediately as the dough will dry out quickly.
  • Combine the apples and 1/3 cup water in a saucepan and bring to a boil then reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 5 minutes. Stir in the remaining ingredients except the butter and bring to the boil again. Boil for 1 minute before adding the butter.
  • Cut the dough into squares then fill each one with the apple mixture.
  • Arrange the turnovers on a greased cookie sheet then place them in the oven for approximately 20 minutes or until turnovers appear golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and allow to cool.
  • Drizzle a confectioner’s sugar and water glaze over the turnovers before serving.
